The creation of the typeface Avant Garde was culturally shocking and unconventional. The typeface was a strong statement from designer Herb Lubalin about the future of liberalism in both the design world and America. The forward-thinking and dauntless nature of Avant Grade inspires the concepts behind these two posters. While aerial dancers’ choreography reflects Avant Garde’s daring and resilient nature, the 70s stiletto represents the eccentric aesthetics of its expressive ligatures and underlying structure.
